Alto Review
Today we started our quest to visit Fifty wine farms in fifty two weeks.
Our first farm starting with an A was Alto.
The setting is absolutely stunning and the white and red roses lining either side if the drive up to the estate was breathtakingly beautiful. The wine tasting area is cozy and comfortable and I am sure a winter tasting in front of the fire would be an experience you would want to repeat.
Our hostess was pretty knowledgeable and passionate about the wines. The estate is not large and does not feel commercial.
They do not offer coffee or food, but concentrate on the wines so don’t stop there without breakfast first.
Alto only does red wines and the reds are very very good.
The Rouge offered in the tasting was a 2017 which was a little too young for my taste, but I am sure with aging would be impressive.
The Cabernet Sauvignon and the Shiraz did not however disappoint.
The Alto Fine Old Vintage was however for me the star of the day.
The farm has a long tradition of red wine making and boasts only five different wine makers in 100 years.
This is definitely a farm to be recommended.
