Blaauwklippen Review

Our third farm on the list for the day.

Blaauwklippen is a beautiful farm situated on the main road. It has beautiful views and the buildings and decor are very pleasing if you are looking for history and views.

Unfortunately we had run a little late and wanted to get something to eat and that’s where the disappointment began.

We found getting to the farm at around three o’clock was not a good time. Staff were uncompromising in their closing time and we felt as if we were inconveniencing them in a way.

Lunch could not be served near the tasting, fair enough, but then everything we suggested felt like it was a problem. That said, we had a late lunch in their restaurant and despite the attitude and time constraints, the food was excellent.

A macaron and wine pairing was ‘unwillingly’ brought to the lunch table to save time, and this was a good choice as the macarons were excellent.

The tasting was however rushed and impersonal. We were given a brief, the wines were poured all at the same time and that’s where the service ended. The Wines got mixed reviews as there was nothing really spectacular about any of them.

After finishing our meal and conscious we were past the kitchen closing time, we proceeded to the gin tasting room and were about to start the tasting when we were told the kitchen was now closed so there was no ice for the tasting!! They were happy to take our R85.00 and let us taste without ice. No plan was made to get ice.

Needless to say we cancelled that experience as who wants to taste gin without ice.

If you are offering tastings till five, surely all items needed should be available.

Our overall consensus on the scoring on this farm was a dismal 3/10.

For such a beautiful farm, the lack of service dampened the experience.
