Camberley

Camberley is a Boutique wine farm in the hills of Hellshoogte in Stellenbosch. The farm grows and makes their own speciality red wines. The wines are hand labelled at the farm and can be seen maturing in the cellars on site..

John Nel the owner and wine maker can be seen joining in and mingling with ivisitors.

Their speciality is their red wines, althoug the wine tasting including a couple of white wines that are apparently not grown and bottled on site, but are commissioned by the farm to entice the student market. No white wine is bottled or made on this farm.

Unfortunately the tranqullity of the site was a little spoilt for us by the construction that was going on.

We took a sneak peak upstairs and the finished product promises to be absolutely stunning with beautiful views.

The red wines were very good but my favourite was the Philosopher's Stone which was the Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Merlot and Cabernet Franc blending 2014. Good value for money and a really good wine.

The Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot has been chosen by Lufthansa as their wine for first class passengers and it did impress me.

The Cabernet Franc was gorgeous as well.

I won't really comment on the white wines as they are not made on the farm but they were very pleasant.

The cheese platter was good value for money and the wine tasting at R45.00/ person was really good value for money.

Nice atmosphere and very friend staff, but a bit of a pity that the actual cellar was under construction as the full experience I think was missed.

This is a wine farm to visit if you want to meet with the owners and get an insite into their business.
