My favourite wine farm to date. I am sure as we go through the list this may change but the experience was awesome, and combined with good value for money and very good service from John, our host. He was very knowledgeable on the wines and quite passionate about the farm and the owners and the decor.
We tried to persuade him to allow us to view Jerome's (the esteemed owner) man cave. The man cave boasted some guitars signed by the rolling stones and an alcohol collection to be envied.
We arrived after four so unfortunately could not access the kitchens for a piece of cheese cake, which was unfortunate, but we then proceeded down the lift to the wine tasting area. The upstairs wine tastings only happen during the week, but I can advise the below ground one for me was much more intimate and I was quite happy to have done the tasting there.
The wines are all named after horses as the underlying theme as this is a stud farm as well. The labels and decor are apparently the doing of the owner's daughter who is the architect and designer.
We were offered to taste seven wines for R50.00 but opted for the five wine option as this was quite late in the afternoon.
The white wines are aptly named and as white wines go were definitely very pleasing.
We chose to taste the Premium range and the Cremello which is an award winning blend of Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Verdelho.
I found the red's to be inspiring with their names and their taste.
Premium Range Nightmare - Cavalli Flagship Red of 2017. A velvety blend of Shiraz and Grenache and very very smooth.
Premium Range Valkyre -A rich blend of Malbec and Petit Verdot, as delicious as it is unique,
Premium Range Colt - Cavalli's maiden Cabernet Sauvignon and this wine shows the progress and potential of Cavall.
Our experience was fun, and not at all rushed despite us getting there after four o'clock. Our host was a fantastic sport and had answers for all our questions and demands. This is a wine farm I will return to.
Decor and ambience lives up to the function venue appeal and the overall feel was fantastic. I would score them a 7/10. They definitely have achieved the beauty of the setting, the style of the modern world and ambience you need compete in a very competitive market.
